U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch: FIFA investigation far from over
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch expects authorities to file additional criminal charges in their ongoing FIFA investigation, she said at a joint press conference with Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber on Monday.
“What I can say is that, separate and apart from the pending indictment, our investigation remains active and ongoing, and has in fact expanded since May,” she said in a news conference in Zurich. “We do anticipate pursuing additional charges against individuals and entities.”
Lynch has spearheaded the United States’ investigation into two decades of FIFA corruption. Lauber and said on Monday that the Swiss investigation involving FIFA corruption is not yet halfway over.

In May, 14 top soccer officials were arrested and indicted by the United States on corruption charges including racketeering, money laundering and wire fraud. Switzerland has opened a separate investigation into potential corruption involving Russia and Qatar’s successful World Cup bids.
Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter was re-elected for his fifth term earlier in May, then announced his resignation six days after the indictments. Lynch did not comment on whether Blatter was a target of the investigation, but sources have told Reuters that the FBI is looking into his leadership of the organization that governs world soccer.
