Manchester United left back Luke Shaw suffered a double leg fracture in Tuesday's Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven.

Shaw broke his leg after being on the receiving end of a hard challenge 15 minutes into the match. The match was Shaw’s Champions League debut.

The injury occurred on a sliding challenge coming from Shaw’s right. Mexican international and PSV defender Hector Moreno took out Shaw’s right leg, which bends and twists awkwardly. You can watch the challenge here [but warning: video contains graphic content]

Shaw signed with Manchester United in 2014. He plays internationally for England.

The player who broke Shaw’s leg, Moreno (who himself suffered a broken leg in the 2014 World Cup), scored a goal near the end of the first half:

Shaw thanked all well wishers–including former club Southampton–almost immediately after being stretchered off the field. Manchester United went on to lose 2-1.
