Perhaps Celta Vigo's place near the top of La Liga's standings is no fluke after all.

Celta Vigo, fifth in Spain with 10 points from its first four games, welcomed reigning UEFA Champions League winner Barcelona to Estadio de Balaidos and stunned the Spanish league favorite, taking a 3-0 lead through a goal from Nolito and two goals by Iago Aspas (both assisted by Nolito) en route to a 4-1 victory.

Barcelona, which entered the day a perfect 4-0-0 in league play, fielded a regular lineup, with its South American front line of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, but it was the Spanish duo of Nolito and Aspas that created all the trouble.

Nolito opened the scoring in the 26th minute by curling an acute, left-angled shot from inside the Barcelona box inside the far corner and pulling into a tie (for the time being) with Cristiano Ronaldo atop the league's scoring chart:

Aspas followed four minutes later, chipping Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen on the counter:

He doubled his tally in the 56th minute, finishing off another precise counter attack and beating ter Stegen from close range:

Despite Neymar pulling a goal back with 10 minutes to go, John Guidetti responded almost immediately, and the result opened the door for Real Madrid to take sole possession of first place in La Liga through five games with a 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. Celta Vigo is level on points with Real but behind on goal differential and sits a point above both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
