Los Angeles Galaxy and Mexico men's national team star Giovani Dos Santos will not play in Saturday's CONCACAF Cup playoff vs. the United States, Mexico manager Tuca Ferretti and the Galaxy announced on Monday.

Dos Santos suffered a muscle injury during the Galaxy’s 1–1 draw with the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night. By sitting out the match against the U.S., Dos Santos will have at least two weeks to recover, as the Galaxy do not play again until Oct. 18.

The 26-year-old signed with the Galaxy in July from Spanish club Villarreal. He has three goals and four assists in eight starts with Los Angeles.

Dos Santos’s presence was felt in the last matchup between the U.S. and Mexico at the Rose Bowl, which happened during the 2011 Gold Cup final. The forward scored off an incredible solo effort to cap a four-goal blitz that led El Tri to the title.

Mexico called in Javier Guemez to replace Dos Santos.
