254 caps, a record 184 international goals, one World Cup title, two Olympic gold medals and one big congrats from the president.

U.S. president and noted sports fan Barack Obama took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to congratulate retiring U.S. forward Abby Wambach. After her years of dominance up front for the women’s national team, special recognition was in order. It’s easy to argue Wambach is the greatest female striker ever, if not the greatest female soccer player of all time, and guess what? Obama agrees.

Obama sent out the tweet ahead of the USA’s friendly with China on Wednesday, which will be Wambach’s final game, and attached a photo of the two meeting at the White House, plus the title of “GOAT” (greatest of all time, for those not as well-versed as Obama in millennial internet-speak).

WAHL: What’s next for Wambach?

Wambach, 35, spoke at length with SI’s Grant Wahl about her career and future plans on the Planet Futbol podcast this week, which you can listen to below.
