Jordan Morris to train with Werder Bremen amid making club decision
The MLS-or-Germany story involving 21-year-old U.S. national team forward Jordan Morris has taken another turn. Morris is set to spend time with Werder Bremen after he attends the Hermann Award trophy gala in St. Louis on Friday, SI.com has learned.
Morris is set to be part of the U.S. national team’s January camp in Southern California, but he is not expected to join the team until Jan. 20, 10 days into the camp.
After leading Stanford to the NCAA title as a junior last month, Morris has decided to turn pro, which Stanford confirmed on Tuesday. The Seattle Sounders, who have his MLS homegrown rights, have offered Morris the most lucrative homegrown contract in MLS history.
Morris, whose father, Michael, is Seattle’s medical director and orthopedic surgeon, is still thought to be seriously considering the Seattle offer, but his trip to train with Werder Bremen suggests the Bundesliga club is still very much in the running for his services. Werder Bremen currently employs U.S. forward Aron Johannsson.
Morris has seven caps with the U.S. national team. He started against Mexico in a friendly last April and scored in the U.S.’s 2-0 victory.
