The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed former English national team and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, the team announced on Wednesday.
Cole, 35, had most recently played for Roma, but became a free agent on Jan. 19 after the team agreed to terminate his contract.
Cole was a regular for England in international competitions, making 107 appearances from 2001–2014. He also played in 229 matches for Chelsea, helping the club win two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
He was named to the Professional Footballers Association Team of the Year four times (2003, 2004, 2005, 2011) during his EPL career.
The move is the latest along the back line for the Galaxy, which recently sold U.S. men's national team defender Omar Gonzalez to Mexican club Pachuca. The Galaxy signed veteran Belgian center back Jelle Van Damme on Tuesday.
