Chicharito scores, hurt in Leverkusen cup loss

Bayer Leverkusen fell to Werder Bremen in the quarterfinals, and the Mexican international suffered an apparent injury.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez continued his run of form with a goal on a penalty kick in Bayer Leverkusen's German Cup clash with Werder Bremen Tuesday, but that's where the good news stopped.

Leverkusen fell 3-1 to bow out in the quarterfinals, and Chicharito was taken off with an apparent injury in the 57th minute. He walked off the field on his own power, holding the left side of his lower back as he was replaced by Kiriakos Papadopoulos with Leverkusen trailing 2-1.

Chicharito had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from the spot after Stefan Kiessling was taken down in the area, as the Mexican forward dispatched his kick low and to the right.

The goal was Chicharito's 10th in his last nine game across all competitions. He has 22 across the Bundesliga (13), Champions League (five) and German Cup (four) since making the move from Manchester United to Leverkusen this summer.
