USWNT tops Canada 2–0 to win Olympic qualifying tournament
The U.S. women’s national team topped Canada 2–0 on Sunday to win the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament behind goals from Lindsey Horan and Tobin Heath.
Eight players from the team—Hope Solo, Kelley O'Hara, Becky Sauerbrunn, Horan, Morgan Brian, Heath, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd—were named to the tournament’s Best XI. Solo also took home the Golden Gloves as the best goalkeeper in the tournament, and Dunn won Golden Boot for scoring a tournament-best six goals.
As a team, the USWNT outscored its opponents 23–0 in five games.
Horan got the scoring started on Sunday with a header in the 52nd minute to put the United States ahead for good.
Eight minutes later, Heath fired a shot into the back of the net to give the team a two-goal cushion.
Both nations had already clinched a spot in the Olympics before the game, and will head to Rio this summer.
