MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) Injured defender Diego Godin has been left out of Uruguay's squad for its World Cup qualifiers later this month against Brazil and Peru.

The Uruguayan Football Association said in a statement on Wednesday that the Atletico Madrid defender had an injured right thigh and would miss both matches.

The injury to Godin takes some of the gloss off the return of Barcelona forward Luis Suarez in the March 25 away match against Brazil in the northeastern city of Recife.

Suarez has been banned for more than a year from international matches after biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
