Remi Garde's stint as Aston Villa manager did not last very long.

Hired in November to help the struggling club, Garde has left the Premier League's last-place squad by mutual consent, Aston Villa announced in a statement Tuesday. Garde will be replaced in the interim by assistant Eric Black.

Aston Villa is facing certain relegation, 12 points from safety with seven matches to play. The club has managed three wins and 16 points all season and has lost its last six matches. Garde had joined the club from Lyon on a three-and-a-half-year deal in early November. As it turned out, he lasted less than five months. The club won just twice in league play and once in the FA Cup under his guidance.
