At least 12 Real Madrid fans were killed in Iraq during the Champions League final between the club and Atletico Madrid on Saturday, reports AS.com.

The terrorist attack was carried out by four gunmen as the two teams were beginning the penalty shootout after extra time. A similar incident occurred earlier this month when 16 Iraqi fans of Real Madrid supporters' club were killed by ISIS.

“It was a similar type of attack to the one that took place earlier in the month. Twelve people have been killed and at least eight wounded, who have been taken to hospital,” the fan club’s president Ziad Albidani told AS.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike in penalties gave Real Madrid its 11th European championship. The club had dedicated the win to the Iraqi fans who were killed earlier this month.
