Euro 2016: Fans clash before Germany vs. Ukraine match

Supporters of Germany and Ukraine clashed in the streets of Lille before the two teams met for their opening match in Euro 2016.

Fans in the center of the city began fighting directly in front of businesses, throwing bottles, chairs and smoke bombs. According to SportBild.com, fans also began chanting right wing slogans and attacked a reporter.

The incident comes amid a string of violence at matches throughout the tournament, which is being hosted in France.

UEFA officials have asked that alcohol sales be halted on match day near stadiums, and have stated that they are attempting to increase security in and around the venues.

• Euro 2016: England, Russia could be disqualified for more fan violence

On Saturday, fans of England and Russia could be seen rioting in the streets of Marseille before and after their match. English fans were forced to flee the stadium at the end of the match after they were charged by a large group of Russian supporters.

UEFA later confirmed that Russia has been charged with crowd disturbances, racist behavior and setting off fireworks.
