The path to the trophy is set for the U.S. Open Cup after the field was reduced to 16 teams Wednesday night.

A pair of NASL teams remain as the only non-MLS contenders, after the New York Cosmos knocked off New York City FC and Fort Lauderdale Strikers beat D.C. United on penalty kicks. The Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy ousted the two remaining non-pro teams, with Seattle defeating Kitsap Pumas and LA taking down fifth-tier amateur side La Maquina (in somewhat controversial fashion), in a game that is under protest, according to a U.S. Soccer press release.

As it stands Kitsap Pumas and the Wilmington Hammerheads receive $15,000 in prize money as a result of them being the last non-pro and USL teams standing in the competition, though it came down to the ninth tiebreaker (total wins in the tournament) to separate the Hammerheads from Oklahoma City Energy.

The fifth round will be played June 28-29, and the draw was conducted with geographical considerations in mind.

The Cosmos will face the New England Revolution, with a potential quarterfinal against the New York Red Bulls in play. The Strikers will take on Orlando City SC as the other non-all-MLS matchup.
