Flare-throwing fans mar Croatia's 2-2 draw with Czech Republic

Croatia, Czech Republic played to a 2-2 draw in a game marred by fans throwing flares on the field.

The Czech Republic was looking at certain elimination, and Croatia had its ticket to the Euro 2016 knockout stage all but punched, but after a deplorable fan intervention, the Czechs are still breathing in France.

The Czech Republic came from two goals down to draw Croatia 2-2, getting goals from Milan Skoda and Tomas Necid in the 76th minute and stoppage time, respectively, to split the point. Skoda's header came off an assist from Tomas Rosicky, but it seemed that's all the Czechs would have as time wound down. But in the 86th minute, flares rang from the stands, as a group of Croatian fans threw them onto the field, with one exploding in the close vicinity of a stadium worker trying to clear them off the field. 

Following a delay, play resumed and Croatia conceded a penalty on a handball by Domagoj Vida. Necid stepped up and roofed his penalty kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time to force the draw. 

Croatia had gone ahead on goals from Ivan Perisic and Ivan Rakitic in the 37th and 59th minute, respectively. In addition to facing disciplinary sanctions for its fans, Croatia will be left sweating the fitness of star midfielder Luka Modric, who needed to exit the match with an apparent muscle injury.
