Seattle Sounders and United States men’s national team forward Clint Dempsey is undergoing medical evaluations for an irregular heartbeat, the Sounders announced Friday.

Dempsey will be held out of the Sounders’ match against the Portland Timbers on Sunday. He also won’t play World Cup qualifying matches for the U.S. next week.

No other details about Dempsey’s medical condition have been released. Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey said the condition is something the team has been monitoring all season.

The 33-year-old Dempsey has eight goals and two assists for the Sounders so far this season. Seattle is undefeated in its last five games, during which Dempsey has recorded five goals and an assist.

Also a star the on the international stage, Dempsey’s 52 career goals for the U.S. are second all-time to Landon Donovan. In 2014, Dempsey became the first American male to score in three World Cups.
