On a night when the U.S. women's national team introduced a number of new faces, it took a little bit for the Americans to get going, but they eventually seized control against Switzerland in the first of two friendlies.

Lynn Williams, fresh off winning the NWSL MVP award, Golden Boot and league championship with the Western New York Flash, scored a minute into her debut, and U.S. regulars Tobin Heath and Christen Press followed with goals later in the second half to break open their match in Sandy, Utah. Williams's Flash teammate, Samantha Mewis, added another in the 76th minute to make it a four-goal half for Jill Ellis's side, which is without the likes of Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg and Ali Krieger as new players get the opportunity to prove themselves.

One of them, Williams, pounced on a turnover in the opening minute coming out of the locker room break and opened the scoring with a cool 1-v-1 finish, making her the 20th player in USWNT history to score on her debut.

Heath followed in the 61st minute, toeing the offside line and holding her position while Crystal Dunn regained possession and fed her through the left channel. Heath bent a low shot inside the far post to make it 2-0.

Press made it three after a pinpoint cross from Kelley O'Hara, redirecting the pass from out in front. The play was sparked by Williams, who did well under pressure in the corner before finding O'Hara.

Press turned provider for the substitute Mewis in the 76th, looping a cross to the center of the box, where Mewis headed home with her first touch coming off the bench.

The U.S. and Switzerland play again on Sunday in Minneapolis.

Next month, the U.S. women will play a pair of friendlies against Romania as the long road to the 2019 Women's World Cup gets going.
