Another star departure: Robbie Keane to leave LA Galaxy
Star forward and captain Robbie Keane is leaving the LA Galaxy, the club announced on Thursday.
Keane, the 2014 MLS MVP, helped lead LA to three MLS Cup titles in his storied tenure with the club. He scored 92 goals in his six seasons, added 51 assists and is arguably the league's best Designated Player signing, in terms of on-field production, in its history. The 36-year-old Keane, who earlier this year retired from international play with Ireland, is not retiring altogether, stating that "I am ready to focus everything I have on one last major challenge in club football and will be taking time out to consider my options before announcing my next move.”

Keane follows Steven Gerrard out the exit door at StubHub Center, leaving the Galaxy with two vacant Designated Player spots to fill. Giovani Dos Santos is the remaining DP on the club's roster.
“It is hard to put into words what Robbie Keane has meant to the LA Galaxy,” Galaxy coach and general manager Bruce Arena said. “From day one, Keane has given everything to this team both on and off the field and has led our club to some of its greatest accomplishments. His resume and accomplishments speak for themselves; he has been the most successful international signing in this league’s history. We thank Robbie for everything he has given to this club and this city and we wish him the best in whatever comes next in his career.”
