Liverpool star man Philippe Coutinho is ready to sit down with club officials for 'clear the air' talks, as his proposed move to Barcelona grows increasingly unlikely.

The Reds knocked back a huge £118m offer from the Spanish giants and reiterated their stance over the player as Barca tried to force the sale through with an ultimatum.

The club are adamant that Coutinho will not leave this summer, despite him handing in a transfer request, and the reality appears to have dawned on the 25-year-old who is keen to resolve any animosity with a chat, as reported by the Independent's Sports Editor Ed Malyon.

He claims that Barca did turn Coutinho's head but the playmaker and his representatives are ready to admit defeat and smooth things over after everything that has happened.

Barca have been left stunned by Liverpool's resolve over the former Inter Milan star, who arrived at Anfield for an £8.5m snip in 2013.

They are now expected to turn their attentions to Ousmane Dembele, who is the top priority, Jean Michael Seri of Nice, and also Tottenham's Christian Eriksen as possible alternatives.

Liverpool fans will be thrilled that Coutinho looks more likely to stay at the club now, but will be hoping to see some more new faces before the transfer window closes next week.
