Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has taken to social media to give fans an update on his injury, while spending the day with Barcelona and Spain legend Xavi.

The 29-year-old has not featured for the Reds this term after being substituted at half time with a thigh injury in August, during his side's penalty defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Audi Cup final.

It was initially claimed that the England international would be absent for three to four months. However, following positive signs during rehabilitation, it seems the former is the more accurate length.

Part of Lallana's recover process has seen him situated in the Aspire Dome in Qatar, where he updated his social media followers after spending the day with Xavi - who has been based there since his departure from Barcelona in 2015 - and labelling the fellow midfield maestro as "one of the greatest players of his generation".

"Great week stepping up the rehab even further - getting stronger each and every day", the Liverpool man posted via his official Instagram account.

"Added bonus of meeting and chatting to one of my idols as well - Xavi. So down to earth despite being one of the greatest players of his generation".

Liverpool have certainly missed Lallana's creativity and goalscoring ability so far this season, with the Englishman recording seven assists and netting eight times in the league last term.

The Merseysiders' indifferent start the to the 2017/18 term has seen them slip seven points behind league leaders Manchester City after just seven games. However, they remain just one point from the final Champions League spot - which is currently occupied by Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp should be able to welcome Lallana back into the fold this month, with the tricky playmaker back running again at the club's training complex Melwood.
