Romelu Lukaku has thanked 'real' fans on social media after scoring a brace in Belgium's 3-3 draw with Mexico.

The 24-year-old has been at the centre of attention surrounding Manchester United recently, with fans creating a controversial song for their £76m striker that has since been banned.

Jose Mourinho has personally defended Lukaku on a number of occasions in recent weeks, stating that the striker was 'untouchable in my team.' However, there still appears to be tension between United fans and the Belgian international.

"Big thank you to all my teammates and the real fans out there for the messages!" Lukaku wrote on Instagram.

The former Everton striker has scored seven goals in the Premier League since his big-money move to Old Trafford over the summer. However, Lukaku hasn't found the back of the net in the league since a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace in September.

The Red Devils host Newcastle when the international break ends and Lukaku will be desperate to play a vital role in securing all three points against the Magpies.

The Belgian international is expected to be a frontrunner in the race for the golden boot this season, along with Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Alvaro Morata.
