Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah Nets Fastest Champions League Hat Trick

Liverpool already had three points in hand in their UEFA Champions League group stage game against Rangers on Wednesday as they approached the final quarter hour of the match. But that’s exactly when star forward Mohamed Salah turned in a performance for the ages.

Staked to a 3-1 lead, Salah erupted for a jaw-dropping three goals in 6:12, setting the record for the fastest hat trick in Champions League history in what became a 7-1 Liverpool victory.

It was Salah’s first career hat trick in Champions League play, giving him 41 career goals throughout the competition. Prior to Wednesday’s showing, Salah’s 38 goals were the second-most all-time for a player without a hat trick, trailing only Thomas Müler’s 52.

The win gave Liverpool nine points through four Group A matches, keeping them three points behind group leader Napoli. Liverpool will travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax on Oct. 26, then will host Napoli on Nov. 1 at Anfield for their final group stage match.
