Lionel Messi Sounds Off On ‘Fool’ Following Win vs. Netherlands (Video)
Lionel Messi and his teammates’ quest to win soccer’s premier prize remains intact after Argentina defeated the Netherlands in a penalty shootout on Friday afternoon.
The two squads finished regulation and extra time notched at 2–2 before Argentina sealed its fate by winning 4–3 in penalties over the Oranje to reach the World Cup semifinals. After Messi danced on the field and interacted with the crowd in jubilation, he took his excitement into a post-match interview. However, that’s where Messi spouted off at an unidentified individual who seemed to make him uncomfortable during his interview with an Argentine TV network.
Messi can be seen looking away from the camera, eyeing someone fiercely as TyC Sports reporter Gastón Edul began his interview.
“Well Leo, you stayed a little, a little hot at the end—“ Edul began.
“What are you looking at, fool,” Messi said. “What are you looking at, fool? Go on and pass, fool. Go on and pass.”
Edul looked toward the unidentified individual and then at Messi and said, “Calm down, Calm down Leo.”
Messi was invigorated and still in the moment following the Albiceleste’s win. In a match that featured nearly an all-time World Cup record of yellow cards given to players (15), the soccer star was truly animated in the victory—especially after a late scrap between the two squads in the final minutes of regulation.
Argentina, a team that has only reached the semifinals twice since 1990, seeks to keep that momentum going Tuesday when the club faces Croatia which knocked out World Cup giant Brazil earlier Friday.
