Lionel Messi: Inter Miami Confirms Signing of Star With Rousing Welcome Video
After over a month of hype following Lionel Messi’s decision to join MLS, Inter Miami has officially announced the historic signing courtesy of a rousing welcome video featuring the soccer megastar himself.
The MLS club released a 40-second clip on Saturday confirming Messi, 36, as an official member of its roster. The video shows a graffiti tagger spelling out the Argentinian icon’s last name before Messi eventually appears on-screen to deliver a message wearing his new pink and black kit.
The brief shot of Messi in Inter Miami’s colors gave fans their first official look at the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner as an MLS player. In the weeks since signing Messi, Inter Miami has seen its ticket prices and popularity skyrocket, with many anxiously awaiting his debut in South Florida.
As if there already wasn’t enough buzz, Saturday’s video is sure to hype the fans and city of Miami even more for Messi’s first MLS game, which is expected take place on July 21 at home against Liga MX side Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.
