Maradona’s first taste of glory with Argentina
On 7 September 1979, Argentina beat the Soviet Union 3-1 in the U20 World Cup Final in Japan and Diego Armando Maradona was awarded the Golden Ball to the best player of the tournament. The rising star had been left out of the 1978 World Cup-winning squad, but this time he was able to showcase his talent on an international stage.
