Landon Donovan played his final game for the U.S. men's national team Friday night, and when it was over he soaked up the final moments of the international spotlight. He remained on the field, hugging his teammates, family, friends and more. He took a victory lap to applaud the fans, who lavished him with praise in return. He teared up while watching a highlight video of his career achievements.
And he also endeared himself even more to the American Outlaws.
Donovan, who nearly scored in the 1-1 draw with Ecuador and played a part in Mix Diskerud's fifth-minute goal, stepped onto the capo stand to lead the national team's official supporters group in a rendition of the U.S. fan anthem 'I Believe!' as one of his final acts while donning U.S. gear.
