Murray cruises through opener in Barcelona

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -- Andy Murray defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-3, 6-2 Tuesday in the second round of the Barcelona Open.

The fourth-ranked Murray broke his Ukrainian opponent three times and saved both break points he faced to reach the third round alongside 2010 champion Fernando Verdasco. The ninth-seeded Spaniard beat Steve Darcis of Belgium 6-3, 6-1.

In the first round, Kevin Anderson of South Africa, Bernard Tomic of Australia and Albert Ramos of Spain all advanced.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal is scheduled to play his opening match on Wednesday.
