Stan Wawrinka, not Roger Federer, to carry Swiss flag at opening ceremonies

After much speculation as to whether Roger Federer would serve as the flag-bearer for Switzerland for the third straight Olympics, it turns out the honor will go to his good friend and doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka. The honor had been offered to the seven-time Wimbledon champion, but Federer stepped aside so his gold-medal winning other half could step in.

“I’m proud of carrying the Swiss flag," Wawrinka said. "It reminds me of the great moment where I received the medal in Beijing with Roger Federer.”
