Andrea Petkovic underwent surgery to repair the torn meniscus in her right knee, an injury she sustained in her first match of the season at the Hopman Cup.

The surgery will sideline her for at least two months, meaning she'll miss the Australian Open and Germany's first-round Fed Cup tie against France. Luckily, Petkovic still has a sense of humor about it all:

Petkovic, the first German woman to finish a year inside the top 10 (2011) since Steffi Graf in 1998, was sidelined through most of 2012 due to injury. Her ranking tumbled from No. 10 to No. 125. A stress fracture in her back forced her to skip the 2012 Australian Open, and when she returned four months later she ruptured her ankle ligaments in her first WTA match back.
