French reporter Eric Salloit reports that Bernard Tomic has withdrawn from next week's Italian Open in Rome, citing personal reasons. Tomic has found himself in the middle of a media firestorm this week after his father, John, was charged with assault in Spain after head-butting Tomic's hitting partner, Thomas Drouet, outside the player hotel in Madrid. In a court hearing on Monday, John Tomic claimed he acted in self-defense. He is due back in court next week.
