French Open fashion misses

Cold weather has wreaked havoc on the fashion scene at the French Open. Springtime in Paris is supposed to be when the City of Lights is bathed in sunshine and the red terre battue shimmers with life. Instead, it's just been gray and drab, so cold that the players have been forced to bundle up in leggings and long sleeves before they can get a proper sweat going. As a result, the fashion at Roland Garros has been a big ol' mess. Here are my French Open fashion misses. (Click here for my fashion hits.)

Venus Williams (Eleven): It's quite possible this would have looked better without the leggings and long-sleeve top, but as it is Venus looked like she let a 7-year-old niece pick out her kit. I absolutely loved her natural hair, though, which made her look regal. (Michel Euler/AP)

Roger Federer (Nike): No collar? A plain grayish crew-neck T-shirt? I dare say Federer looks like a mere mortal. Roger Federer should never look like a mere mortal. (Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

Rafael Nadal (Nike): The same critique goes for Nadal's Nike kit, which is once again topped by a boring neutral color and not enough color to make it eye-catching. I miss the days when Nike made Nadal look like a popsicle. Let's get back to the use of colors and patterns. (Michel Euler/AP)

Svetlana Kuznetsova (Qiaodan): At least Kuznetsova brought some blue sky to Paris for a few hours. Every cloud has a silver lining, though that's still not an excuse for what's going on here. (Matthew Stockman/Getty Images)

Stephanie Foretz Gacon: The brief glimpse of sunshine on Day 2 meant France's Foretz Gacon could bust out her teeny-tiny glasses that make her look like the fourth blind mouse. How does she play with those things? (Martin Bureau/AFP/Getty Images)

Gael Monfils (Asics): To be fair, Asics probably wasn't anticipating that Monfils would wear that undershirt, whose red accents clearly clash with the company's kit. But what was the logic behind the original kit anyway? Whenever Monfils goes horizontal (which is often, let's be frank), I keep thinking my television has gone into emergency broadcast mode. Sloane Stephens (Under Armour): If Stephens had hoped to go unnoticed during the French Open, her kit made that impossible. I'm going to need to borrow Foretz Gacon's sunglasses to look at that dress. (Matthew Stockman/Getty Images)

Julia Goerges (Fila): Pepto-pink. No thanks, Fila. (Getty Images)

Kristina Mladenovic and Fernando Verdasco (Adidas): I'm from California and even I can't abide by the UCLA-inspired kits from Adidas. This isn't an episode of The O.C. (Philippe Wojazer/Reuters; Clive Mason/Getty Images)
