The King of Ill-Advised Trick Shots was at it again on Friday.

After winning the first set, Gael Monfils was serving at 3-5 in the second set of his quarterfinal match against Tommy Haas at the Gerry Weber Open when he had an easy lob to put away to take a 30-15 lead in the game. Instead, the Frenchman let the lob bounce between his legs to set up a spinning overhead with his back to the net. He eventually lost the point, got broken for the set and lost the match 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-3.

Now let us all join in one collective head shake at the Continually Curious Case of Gael Monfils. What's more jaw-dropping: That he even went for a shot like this or that he almost (not really) pulled it off?

Last month, Monfils hit a no-look backhand winner against Jurgen Melzer in Munich. In February, he displayed incredible court coverage to win a point against Juan Martin del Potro in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Monfils is coming off a third-round appearance at the French Open, where he upset Tomas Berdych in the first round and filmed the crowd doing the Wave during his second-round victory against Ernests Gulbis. He squandered a two-set lead in his loss to Tommy Robredo.

Monfils announced earlier in the week he will be skipping Wimbledon.
