Top-ranked American junior Tornado Alicia Black made her WTA Tour debut on Monday, losing to Bojana Jovanovski 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the Mexican Open.
The 15-year-old wild-card entry played a competitive match against the 22-year-old Jovanovski, the sixth seed and 42nd-ranked player in the world. Jovanovski, who made the fourth round of the Australian Open and third round of the French Open last year, needed 1 hour and 55 minutes to advance. She was broken when serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set.
"Had such an amazing experience here in Mexico!" Black tweeted. "Even tho I lost I got a standing ovation, a moment I will never forget. Muchas gracias!! :)"
