Finland's Nieminen makes 2nd round in Bucharest

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) Finnish veteran Jarkko Nieminen's first match against Leonardo Mayer of Argentina took more than two hours to win in the first round of the Nastase Tiriac Trophy on Monday.

Eighth-seeded Nieminen prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) on the outdoor clay at BNR Arenas against the Vina del Mar finalist.

Also, Czech Jiri Vesely defeated Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (3), 6-0, and Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky overcame Romanian wild card Patrick Ciorcila 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
