PARIS -- Serena Williams took some time out of her French Open preparations to Kanye West's and Kim Kardashian's wedding over the weekend. Serena told reporters she attended "some of the festivities" which included the dinner in Versailles. Her succinct review of said festivities?

"It's always fun with Kim."

Serena shook off her first round jitters to defeat Alizé Lim 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the French Open. Serena was given an early Sunday start -- the French Open is the only Grand Slam that takes place over 15 days -- and looked nervous from the start of the match. It wasn't the cleanest performance -- she hit 36 unforced errors -- but eased through in an hour and 18 minutes.

"I think in general for me I always have a little bit of nerves and just I try to harness them and put it in the right place," Serena said. "I was extremely nervous last year here in the final. The whole match I could barely get there. I was really, really, really nervous. Then also the U.S. Open I was nervous... So I think it's nice to have a little bit of that, because it means that you still have a passion for it. You still have this inside feeling that you want to do really well or else the nerves wouldn't be there."

Serena comes in as the defending champion this year, but says she isn't playing her best.

"I was in really top form last year on the clay, or at least I thought I was," she said. "This year I'm just going day by day. I do have to say this year I don't feel as much pressure on myself as I did last year."
