U.S. Open tennis schedule 2014: Day 2

Day 2 of the U.S. Open begins at 11 a.m. ET. John Isner, who is the highest ranked American in the tournament, plays fellow American Marcos Giron in the second match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Both No.1 seed Serena Williams, and No. 2 seed Roger Federer play matches under the lights at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Williams plays Taylor Townsend and Federer plays Marinko Matosevic of Australia.

Marinko Matosevic vs. Roger Federer (2) 7 p.m. at Arthur Ashe Stadium  Roger Federer enters the 2014 U.S. Open as the No. 2 seed in the men's draw.  Federer won five consecutive U.S. Open titles from 2004-2008.  Since winning his last title in 2008 at the U.S. Open, he has seen a steady decline in his finishes. He was
a runner-up in 2009, and then followed that up with two straight semifinal appearances, a quarterfinals and then
the fourth round exit in 2013.   Serena Williams (1) vs. Taylor Townsend Following 7 p.m. match at Arthur Ashe Stadium Williams has won the past two U.S. Open tournaments. With her 2013 victory, Williams became the oldest
US Open champion in the Open Era at age 33. She beat Victoria Azarenka in the finals in three sets.  The victory pushed Williams' career prize money over $50 million.   Marcos Giron vs. John Isner (13) Not before 1 p.m. at Arthur Ashe Stadium Isner is the highest-seeded American at the U.S. Open. Isner's best finish at the U.S. Open came in 2011, when he lost to Andy Murray in the quarterfinals in four sets. 

Isner has never won a Grand Slam tournament.
