Roger Federer confirmed he will play in the Brisbane International in January, according to the Courier Mail.

Federer made his debut at Brisbane earlier this year and finished second to Lleyton Hewitt. He said his focus is on winning the tournament, not merely preparing for the Australian Open.

“I see it in isolation as an important tournament on my calendar,’’ said Federer, who has lifted three ATP singles titles this year for a career of 80.

“It’s ideal conditions leading into the Australian Open, but I don’t see Brisbane as a warm-up tournament for the Australian Open."

The 2015 Brisbane International will be played from Jan. 4-11.

Federer, ranked third in the world behind Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, will play Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the fourth round of the U.S. Open on Tuesday.
