Djokovic eases into Qatar Open quarterfinals

DOHA, Qatar (AP) Top seed Novak Djokovic moved his Qatar Open debut into the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine on Wednesday.

Djokovic won 29 of 34 points when his first serve went in, and saved all three break points he faced.

Djokovic will play seventh-seeded Ivo Karlovic of Croatia next. Karlovic captured a 7-6 (3), 6-3 second-round win over qualifier Nikoloz Basiashvili of Georgia.

Fourth-seeded David Ferrer won the all-Spanish battle against Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-2.

Ferrer will play Dustin Brown of Germany, who posted a 7-6 (9), 6-4 win over compatriot Jan-Lennard Struff.

Third-seeded Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic was in action late Wednesday.
