WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) Former pro player James Blake has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of the U.S. Tennis Association's national charitable organization.

Blake's role with the USTA Foundation as a spokesman and ambassador was announced Monday. He succeeds Mary Carillo.

Once ranked as high as No. 4, Blake won 10 ATP singles titles and helped the United States win the 2007 Davis Cup championship.

He announced his retirement from the tour during the 2013 U.S. Open.
