Bautista Agut advances to Marseille semis

MARSEILLE, France (AP) Fourth-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut advanced to the semifinals of the Open 13 with a 7-6 (7), 6-3 victory over Dominic Thiem on Friday.

The 26-year-old Spaniard, who also reached the semifinals in Chennai last month, will next face either seventh-seeded Gael Monfils of France or Simone Bolelli. The Italian upset top-seeded Milos Raonic in the second round at the indoor tournament.

Bautista Agut, who achieved a year-end best ranking of No. 15 last season after clinching his first two ATP titles, saved three set points in the tiebreak then relied on his consistent serve to prevail.

Second-seeded Stan Wawrinka played Sergiy Stakhovsky and 2007 champion Gilles Simon took on Jeremy Chardy in an all-French match later Friday.
