No. 6 Raonic of Canada out of French Open after foot surgery

PARIS (AP) Sixth-ranked Milos Raonic will miss the French Open after having surgery on his right foot.

The Canadian announced his withdrawal Thursday, a day before the draw for the clay-court Grand Slam tournament.

Raonic was forced to retire from a match at Monte Carlo in April and skip the tournament in Rome last week.

The French Open begins Sunday.

Raonic says his rehabilitation work to come back from the injury ''will continue this week and I will shortly begin preparations'' for grass-court tournaments at Queen's Club and Wimbledon, which starts June 29. He was a semifinalist at the All England Club last year.

His operation last week in France was intended to help a condition that usually involves the thickening of the tissue around a nerve leading to a toe.
