HALLE, Germany (AP) Second-seeded Kei Nishikori advanced to the quarterfinals of the Gerry Weber Open by beating German wild card Dustin Brown 7-5, 6-1 on Thursday.

The Japanese player next faces Poland's Jerzy Janowicz, who earlier defeated Colombian qualifier Alejandro Falla 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Top-seeded Roger Federer advanced to the quarterfinals of the grass-court Wimbledon tune-up by overcoming Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday.
