NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) Denis Istomin advanced to the final of the Nottingham Open on Friday when defending champion Marcos Baghdatis retired early in their semifinal match with a left calf injury.

Baghdatis, who was on a nine-match winning streak at the Wimbledon warm-up tournament, was leading 2-1 in the first set when he pulled up after playing a shot. He received treatment and retired.

The No. 92-ranked Istomin will play either Sam Querrey of the United States or Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in Saturday's final.

The extent of Baghdatis' injury was not immediately clear. The 2006 Australian Open runner-up was drawn Friday to face U.S. player Donald Young in the first round at Wimbledon.
