Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup due to a right leg strain, the WTA announced on Friday.

Simona Halep will move up to the No. 2 seed, which Sharapova had occupied. Serena Williams is the No. 1 seed.

The Rogers Cup, which begins on Aug. 10, will be held in Toronto.

Sharapova is currently ranked No. 2 in the WTA's women's rankings, behind only Williams. She has not competed since Wimbledon in July, where she lost to Williams in the semifinals.

In 2015, Sharapova has won the Brisbane International and the Italian Open and reached the final of the Australian Open. Her next scheduled tournament is the Cincinnati Masters, which begins on Aug. 17.
