Daily Data Viz: Distance run by the women's semifinalists

Thursday September 10th, 2015

Only four players remaining in the women’s draw at the 2015 U.S. Open: Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci. How far have these players ran on court leading up to the semifinals? Power playing Serena has been able to limit her time on court with short matches. She also dictates the style of play by moving her opponents around the court, or running less per point. The other semifinalists tend to run farther per point than Serena. They’ll likely have to combine that with accurate hits to take down the favorite this year. Who will advance to the finals: the players with fresher legs or the ones with a few miles on them?
