Top seeds sweep the day session on RLA
The favorites had no trouble with their lesser-ranked opponents on Melbourne Park’s main court on Wednesday, as No. 5-seed Maria Sharapova started the day with a 6–2, 6–1 win over Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich to notch her 50th career Australian Open victory. In the next match, No. 1-seed Serena Williams dominated against Su-Wei Hsieh, winning 6–1, 6–2 in 60 minutes. Serena hit 26 winners and seven aces on the match. No. 3-seed Roger Federer closed out the day session with a commanding 6–3, 7–5, 6–1 win over Alexandr Dolgopolov for his 299th Grand Slam victory. Wednesday’s win put Federer into the third round at the Australian Open 16th-straight time and after the match, he was asked how long he sees himself competing at this high level.
