On Sunday at the 2016 Australian Open, top seed Novak Djokovic will take on No. 14-seed Gilles Simon for a spot in the quarterfinals. Djokovic leads their head-to-head 9-1 and has won their last nine meetings. Simon plays a similar game to Djokovic, just not as consistently. They’re both solid from the backcourt, but Djokovic is just a bit stronger and can go from defense to offense more easily. Through three rounds in Melbourne, Djokovic has made 78 unforced errors to Simon's 72, but Djokovic has 116 total winners to just 77 from Simon. On serve, Djokovic also has the advantage. He’s been broken twice in three rounds and faced five break points. Simon has lost serve four times but has faced 18 break points. Djokovic was No. 1 on tour last year on 2nd serve—both his and his opponent’s—and that’s where he can really take control.
