DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Nick Kyrgios advanced to the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships by beating third-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-4.

The Australian, making his debut at the tournament in Dubai, received treatment on his back while up a break and leading 3-2 in the first set.

Last week, Kyrgios beat Berdych en route to winning his first career title in Marseille. The two also played last month at the Australian Open, with Berdych winning.

Kyrgios will next play either second-seeded Stan Wawrinka or eighth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber.
