After Serena Williams won her seventh Wimbledon championship and tied Steffi Graf’s Open Era record of 22 major singles titles with a  victory over Angelique Kerber, the 34-year-old drew praise from Graf herself.

"What an incredible performance by Serena at Wimbledon!" Graf wrote in a Facebook post. "Such a gift to all sport fans who get to continue to watch her add to an already amazing career #22!!! Also, well done to Angelique making Germany so proud with her talent and fighting spirit!"

Williams came up with 13 aces and 19 winners in a dominant performance, taking the match 7-5, 6-3. She drew praise from several prominent athletes and celebrities on Twitter.

Later in the day, Williams won her sixth doubles title at Wimbledon with her sister Venus.

She enters the U.S. Open with a chance to surpass Graf’s record.
