WASHINGTON (AP) American qualifier Ryan Harrison knocked off 10th-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia 7-6 (4), 6-4 on Wednesday to reach the third round at the Citi Open.

Harrison converted only three of 22 break points, but that was enough to set up a match against fifth-seeded Steve Johnson next. Johnson beat Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-4.

In a matchup featuring two of the three teens in the ATP's top 100, seventh-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany saved all five break points he faced and overwhelmed Taylor Fritz of the U.S. 6-4, 6-2. They were born six months apart in 1997.

In women's play, wild-card entry Jessica Pegula defeated Christina McHale 7-5, 6-2 in an all-American contest. Pegula, whose parents own the NFL's Buffalo Bills and NHL's Buffalo Sabres, reached the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament for the first time.
